Colder than Nuuk!!!

Yikes, it is cold again... I know I have commented on our temperature swings before but what we are experiencing now - in our otherwise beautiful city - is ridiculous! Let me repeat, "RIDICULOUS"!!!.
On Sunday we had beautiful sunshine and our 42 degrees Fahrenheit felt really warm (that is 6 degrees Celsius). The snow was finally melting and I could hear the chirping of birds. All of a sudden the warm weather hesitated and the cold came sweeping in from somewhere. Today we had -31 degrees Fahrenheit (-35 Celsius). Talk about swing state, that is 70 degrees difference in two days!

This picture is borrowed from gadgetcrunch.net, but this is how our sidewalk looks like. I saw some guys working on our sidewalk this morning with pick axes to get the ice off. PICK AXES!

I have heard people say that the cold comes to Minneapolis when the wind brings cold air from Canada and the north pole but I can't believe that. I checked today! The temperature at Svalbard weather station registered 12 degrees Fahrenheit today (-11 C). That is very comfortable. Nuuk (city on Greenland) had a balmy -2 Fahrenheit today that is only -18 Celsius. Sounds like the tropics to me! Where does this stinking cold weather come from?

You can say that again...stinking, stinking, stinking, stinking cold! I really wanted to "embrace" the cold this year, like J always says. I was going to be all positive, but I've reached my threshold...uuurrrggg. I want SPRING - I need let out a vår skrik (spring scream) soon!

OH Man! Too bad I am not there to enjoy it with you. We could go to the Winter Carnival again! Fun!

NOT a fun memory! NO THANKS! But we could use some and I repeat some of your could here. We have so far had zero winter. I like it but it is very bad for nature! Landslides, trees uprooted because of the soggy ground. So a little cold would do us some good.

And for the kids! Imagine to play in mud every day. Em

I like the mud -no! I LOVE the mud in comparison to snow and ice! I'm so glad I don't have to suffer those Minnesotan winters anymore! Mud is heaven!

If I could I would send you all some of our winter. Thankfully the weather is getting a little warmer now. It might even get warm enough for a little snow they say. I never knew that when it gets too cold it hardly ever snows. I wonder why?

You guys really make me laugh. Today I signed up to play outside with all of Annika's pre-school class. Thinking this would be a 20 minute commitment. Not Mrs. Clifford, she had us out for an hour. I actually have a little frostbite on my cheek. My poor toesies. The kids had fun some how.
