I read this story on the New York Times today and I was taken in by a picture of these trees. At first I thought it was a drawing; it looks like something out of C.S. Lewis' space trilogy. I guess I had never given thought to where the Frankincense fragrance comes from. These set of trees grow on a Yemeni island and they have 9 varieties of Frankincense trees there. The writer, Alan Burdick, saw the sap from the tree oozing out. He caught a drop of sap and smelled it (heavenly!) and when he tasted it he declared, "I tasted Christmas."
I would love to go visit this place, though I had never thought about going to Yemen before this. Where is an unlikely place you would like to go?

I am not sure about the word unlikely, but here are som places described where I want to go....again.
When I was 15 years old I got a huge birthdaygift from my parents. A oneweek travel to eastAfrica (Rwanda, Burundi, Zaire). When we (the missionairy and I) travelled by car from Rwanda to Burundi I saw the nature from the window. From the snaky mountainroad I saw what looked like a smaller piece of an undisturbed rainforest. The early morning mist (white) went slowly upwards kissing the blue heaven. I thought to myself I have to take a picture of this....I didn´t. One of my biggest mistakes ever.
The missionairystation close to mount Kilimanjaro at four/five in the morning...only a few glimpses of the sun embrasing everything in lightred. No clouds over mount Kilimanjaro. Fresh air. I got that on picture.
The weddingtravel to Mombasa and a very fine hotel. The breakfast on the train together with my beloved.

Oh Wow! A new blog...I was just passing though to play a little more Boggle...
Hmmm...well, the smell I equate Yemen with is urine...I was in an airport there a long time ago and the bathrooms were backed up something awful...
My unlikely place is Yellowknife in the NW terriories. Mir says I am on my own ...
@Sam: Thankfully, this island I want to go to, Socotra, is 250 miles off the coast of Yemen!
@Em: What a beautiful description of Africa. I hope you get to go again - soon.
