Gentle but Powerful Creature

So, this is the elephant who stopped to say hello to me. I felt she looked at me from afar as our friends climbed on, as if deciding that she would stop to say hello to me. She passed a group of people and and stopped 2 feet away from me extending her trunk over the fence and sniffed my arms and hands. I am sure that me holding a frozen orange treat helped with her stopping but others in the group she had just passed were also holding the same orange treat that I had. Besides, she didn't just grab it from my hands. She was sniffing and almost begging me to give it to her. I knew that she could have just easily taken it away from me but she wanted me to give it. She stood there for a while begging and sniffing, until the trainer said, "just give her the orange!" I did not want our meeting to stop and I knew it would as soon as I gave the orange. But I did give it and off she went leaving me with a memorable impression. Who knows, she might have picked me out of the crowd because she knew I could not resist giving her the treat...? Can elephants be that clever? At any rate, when you get close to such a magnificent and powerful creature who seems so gentle you just have to admire it and revere its' creator.

Yes elephants are that intelligent! It is not just by chance that elephants are often the symbol of wisdom in Asian cultures... Check out these links:

Thanks Mirjam for your comment! It was just such a powerful experience for me even if it was fairly brief.
